Matthews Family Cemetery
Visited today. Very overgrown, though the nice young man who helped me find it had recently cleared some of the small trees and undergrowth. I believe it is the correct family (children of Robert Matthews (1777-1832) ?), but no readable markers for Robert or Mary Matthews with the corresponding dates. There was a Robert M Matthews on an obelisk, with the date Dec 11, 1830. On the opposite side was a Sallie Shepherd Matthews (Sept 25,1846-Apr 22, 1902). The rootsweb page has Robert M married to Sarah Shepard - but it definitely said Sallie Shepherd (Sept 25, 1840-Apr 22 1902). I wonder if he had the marker done, then when he passed away his date wasn't added.

Sallies epitaph reads:
A loved one from us
has gone-Which can
never be replaced-God
in his wisdom has re-
called-The boon His
love has given

Would you like the pictures I took anyway? I can try and go to the Fayette Co historical society and see if they have any info.

Sarah Rakestraw Tucker
Sarah is not buried in the Reynoldsville Church of God Cemetery. After a visit there 7/14/15, it is obvious that it cannot be possible. Church was formed in the 1940's way after her death. Spoke with the Minister there and there is no Sarah Rakestraw there. Church has recently done a survey of the cemetery and there is only one grave w/o a headstone and it is a recent death of a child.

RE: rakestraw cemetery
You're welcome. I'm sorry, but I have no idea where any other Rakestraws are buried. This cemetery is VERY overgrown and will be inaccessible in a few weeks due to weeds, snakes, etc., Many of the tombstones are illegible. I hope the picture I took helped.

RE: Sarah Catherine's grave
Hi Jo:

I'm going to go back out to the Sturkie Cemetery before to much longer and see if I can find his grave. The old cemetry is so grown up in weeds that it is hard to locate all the graves.

I was looking on Roots Web and it said tht he was buried in an marked grave. I will be glad to look for it when I go back out.

Is their anyone else that you would like for me to see if I can find? If so, I will be more tan glad to do it for you. Just let me know.

Bennie
