RE: Van Gundy
I know my 14 days are just about up for finding the rest of the graves in Old Sycamore Cemetery. Between the weather and sick kids....I do plan to try again today if it isn't raining! I did get a map from the library to help find them.

Thank You
Thank you for taking the picture of the headstone for Cecil and Edna Loper. It is nice to see the flowers on the headstone knowing someone is visiting there grave.

Patricia, I have tears in my eyes right now! Thank you so much for getting me a photo of my Grandpa's burial marker. We have been trying to get Military information on him - and I believe you have helped us out tremendously!

Van Gundys
According to an 1981 transcription of Old Sycamore Cemetery there are at least twelve more Van Gundys buried there:
They are all in Section 1.
Row 6:
Lot 36 William A. stone broken and buried
Lot 39 [between Marcy and Jimmy] stone overturned,
too heavy to lift
Lot 41 Sarah J. h/w 25 Jun 1838-5 May 1912
Row 8:
Lot 05 illeg. [could be Van Gundy or Palmer]
Lot 67 Elizabeth 1824-1882
Lot 68 William 1821-1891
Lot 69 Lavina 1832-1904
Lot 70 broken stone
Row 9:
Lot 75 Delta s/o George & May E. 19 Apr 1871-9 Apr 1___
Lot 76 Large family stone for Van Gundy (Whitemetal)
Lot 77 Willie 9 Feb 1878-31 Jul 1938
Lot 80 George 1831-1907
Mary E. h/w 1839-1921
-This transcription was compiled by the DAR 1981, published 1982, entitled "WYANDOT COUNTY, OHIO CEMETERY BURIAL RECORDS." A really nice feature of this book are the WPA maps for each cemetery.
Perhaps this will help the lady taking photos of the Van Gundy. Good luck!

Now you have a ...
... van full of Van Gundys ;-) Twenty-six would probably fill a few vans

RE: Van Gundy
If there are certain ones who you cant read and need more info on I can take a look more closely. It is hard to get a photo that shows what is there, but you can just see some of it (like Elsie's). I will also move Hannah's stone to see what is written behind.

Don't be afraid to ask! I visit the local library often. If there are obits you need let me know! The Hayes library has a listing of obituaries... Throughout papers they have indexed there are 49 "Vangundy" and 40 "Van Gundy" (different spellings produce diff. results). Any from Upper Sandusky Public Library I can easily obtain.

RE: Van Gundy
I drive by the cemetery in Sycamore everyday. I enjoy helping out!

While searching for the graves, I found Detta rather than Delta. (buried near George and Mary) Could these be the same person? The death date is off. You can see Detta on the same monument as Infant VanGundy. There is also a small limestone marker for him.

Finding them all was harder than I thought it would be. I will have to go back, still have about a dozen to go. Some may not exist anymore, there are missing and illegible stones. Will do my best.

Hi Patricia,

I was wondering if you are not related to Julia and Rufus Ford, you would transfer them to me. They are my Great Aunt & Uncle. Julia is the sister to my G Grandfather Seth Warren Shaffer.
Thank you for your consideration.

Check him out .. see if he is related. :-)Thinking I have a few more I found for you this weekend.. so keep an eye out. :-)

RE: Maria Trumbauer
You're more than welcome! If there are any other burials in the cemetery that you are interested in please let me know. Most of them are in German and hard to decipher but surprisingly Maria's was easy to read as it was it good condition and the dates and name were quite legible. :)

RE: Trumbauer
No problem Patricia. My wife's great great grandparents graves were just a few feet away. It is a very small cemetery but one of the best maintained in the state.

Did we get the memorials straightened out that I got by mistake? I don't see things sometimes and I have no idea about this?
