RE: The Gay Family
Hi, I don't know if I responded to your posts.

Elizabeth Clark(1812-1895) married to John Asker Gay was my 2nd great grandmother. My line goes thru her son, Emanual Gay, then Miller Lamar Gay, then Tula Lee Gay & me.

We recently located Elizabeth's & John Gay's graves. A cousin took the pictures & sent them to me. I tried to visit when we there last Nov, but was unable to.

I still have family in Laurens Co. My dad's sister Julia M Gay Coleman turned 89 in May.

I would love to exchange info with you,
Karen Gay Thompson

I need to update my profile. We moved back to Florida in 2012

RE: Johnson C Towns & Towns Cemetery
Hi Nancy, thanks for your reply with the information. I believe all of that would be a fair assumption. Elisha Edward Towns, son of Johnson Towns, is my ggrandfather; Arthur Jackson Towns is my grandfather.

We believe Elisha Towns is buried in Bethlehem (Sandhill) UMC Cemetery in Telfair County, in an unmarked grave, but it's only hearsay passed down from my grandfather Towns, to my uncle James, and my Aunt Pauline. My grandfather told Uncle James where the burial site was, but, unfortunately, he didn't have a chance to pass that information on to the rest of the family.

Do you have any information past Gideon Towns, who his father and grandfathers were? I have the book "The Descendants of William Towne" which states that the Gideon line claims they do not come from the William Towne family line, but haven't found much reliable information past that.

Thanks for all your hard work on the Towns family and all the other findagrave memorials that you have contributed to.

RE: Rev. Charles E. & Margaret H. McDonald
Thank you for the dates. I have corrected the memorials and see that a lot of links have been made. Rev McDonald was pastor at Union ARP Church in Richburg S.C.. I have added memorials for the former pastors of Union Church and their families. Thanks again for your hard work. g.agee

Hey Nancy, I noticed you have researched the Gay's in Laurens Co, Ga. I, also, have Gays in my family tree & was wondering if you've ever heard of mine since I cannot seem to get anywhere with them. My great- grandma was Jennie Gay Conner (F.A.G. Memorial# 99882357) Her mother was Mary Gay; her sister= Almeaid; & she had a brother named James/ Jim who, I believe, is buried down in Alamo, Ga.
Jennie's death certificate doesn't list her parents.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. :)... Cathy

oh... are you the same Nancy on the William Fountain descendants FB page? :)

RE: The Gay Family
I would love to have anything you want to share on the Clarks. Elizabeth Clark was my 2nd great grandmother. Do you live in Laurens County?

I went to the Oconee Library last week, looking for Laurens County Newspaper Clippings by Tad Evans. Looking for info for Luther White @1861-1919? Their info for the early 1900's was limited.

I have the Burch, Harrell & Allied Families volumes & the Laurens County cemetery book.

RE: The Gay Family
John Jacob Asker Gay was my 2nd great grandfather, married to Elizabeth Clark. His last name was Holton & in 1841 he changed it to Gay. His mother was Mary Polly Holton.

John Gay & Elizabeth Clark are buried at the Old Cedar Grove church location. My cousin was there but didn't take a picture of their graves. There are other graves, too.

RE: The Gay Family
I don't have William T Gay or Jonah Gay, but there could be a connection I haven't matched.

RE: The Gay Family
I didn't know know much about the Gay's when I started genealogy in 2009. It seems our line started with Jacob Gay & Mary Polly Holton. They must not have been married as the kids changed their names from Holton to Gay in 1841. They lived in the area of Cedar Grove, Laurens, GA.

RE: Rhodes
Our line of Rhodes was from Fluvanna County in the early 1800s. I don't know currently how many remain there. My line moved to Fayetteville, NC (Robert L. Rhodes). This is the one who married the Branch daughter, sister of William M. Branch, Jr. Many of the Rhodes worked for the railroad and some for Western Union in NC or Virginia.

Added by NCgensearch on May 11, 2014 6:41 PM

I see you are researching Rhodes also. Where we're your Rhodes located? Mine were from Fluvanna Co., VA.

RE: William McNeil Branch
Thank you very much for linking them. There is a sister, Lila Branch Peele, whose grave I have not been able to locate that probably is in Scotland Co., NC. We have never been able to locate a grave or death certificate for
William, Sr.

Virginia was my great great grandmother through her daughter, Louise. Two of Virginia's grandchildren are still living, both 98 yo this year.

How are you connected to William? I met a great grandson of his a few years ago.

Thank you so much for the photo. Sadie's daughter was one of my mother's best friends. Now that I see her photo, I can see that she and her daughter looked so much alike.
