He also retired from the United States Army as an infantry colonel, and is a Newhard, Moll and Kuntz family member through his great grandmother, Lydia Ann Nyhart Schmalzhaf (1838-1900). A history buff and degreed military historian, he writes Revolutionary War stories about family members and the events of their day.
