Alexander "Alex" Julian Smith, 17. of Marysville died Jan. 19, 2008, at Rideout Memorial Hospital in Marysville.
Born in Yuba City, he was a lifelong Yuba-Sutter resident.
He was a student.
He was a member of St. Isidore Catholic Church, participated in several sports at River Valley High School and Marysville High School and was a vocalist in his father's band, "Joyride".
Survivors include his parents, Rick and Mary Smith of Marysville; two sisters, Cassandra Smith of Marysville and Adrian Castillo of Yuba City; a brother, Eddie Castillo of Yuba City; and his grandparents, Frank and Alice Ramos of Yuba City and Delores and Richard Smith Sr. of Vandalia, MO.
In the colorful room that serves as the family music studio stands an electric guitar that belonged to Alex who died a week ago. He could leave the instrument for six months at a time says his father, then pick it up and make it sing.
Family members, friends and neighbors say he was that way too with his relationships.
"He related to everyone and everybody loved him," says Garrett Lee, 22, who lives next door to the family. "You don't find kids like Alex anymore."
On Saturday, Alex's grandmother, Alice Ramos, said she was ready to speak about events surrounding her grandson's stabbing death.
"I want to get the word out, she said. "I don't want my grandson to have died in vain."
Note: A 19 year old man from a nearby town was arrested for Alex's death.

I miss you so much Alex.... I never grew a pair and told you how much I loved you. But you were one in a very short list of people who didn't judge me.... I would die today so the world could have you back. I love you!|
