In 1992 she married actor Christopher Reeve. Three years later her husband was paralyzed in a horse riding accident. She became a tireless advocate in the search for a cure to paralysis and at her husband's death on October 10, 2004 she assumed the position of chairperson of the Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation. At the time of her death over sixty–two million dollars had been given by the foundation for research and quality of life grants. She spent the last years of her life as an activist for the rights of the disabled. Although she nor her husband ever smoked she was stricken by lung cancer. (bio by: Bigwoo)
