Obituary: Unknown Publication, June 1946
Mrs. Martha J. Clark, one of Tuscumbia's most respected women,
passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. P. H. George, at Linn Creek
Tuesday morning, as a result of complication of disease incident to age.
Mrs. Clark's health began failing fastly the latter part of last year, when
she went to live with her daughters, where she passed away.
Arrangements raze made to have the funeral service at the
Tuscumbia Christian Church on Thursday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock, conducted
by Rev. W.E. Waddell, pastor of the Crocker Christian Church, with burial at
the Tuscumbia Cemetery under the direction of the Bankson-Woolery Funeral
Home of Camdenton.
Martha J. Hawken was born near Tuscumbia on June 11, 1865, the
daughter of John and Anna Hawken, both deceased.
She was united in marriage to James E. Clark, January 1888,
and to this union five children were born, four of whom are living, one
having died in infancy.
Those who are living are Mrs. P. H. George of Linn Creek, Mrs.
Edgar Vernon of Eldon, Mrs. Farris Houser of Kaiser, and Edna of the home.
Two brothers and one sister also survive. They are Mrs. Emma Allen and W.C.
Hawken of Kansas City, Mo., and Samuel P. Hawken of Tuscumbia. There are
eight grandchildren. Her husband preceded her in death twenty-five years
She was united with the Christian Church at Tuscumbia when a
young woman and lived a Christian life until her death. She will be sadly
missed by all as she was a loving mother and friend to all. To know her was
to love her.
