John was the son of Andrew Jackson Simmons, born in Alabama, and Sarah Caroline Seymour. John was married to Sarah Richardson in Mercer County, Missouri in March of 1869 and lived there until about 1883. Three children were born there. Sarah was born at Brownstown, Indiana on Nov. 29, 1848. John and Sarah were living with John's parents in Summit Twp., Chautaqua County, Kansas in 1880 (per 1880 Census). John and Sarah had children; Mary E., born Dec. 27, 1875, died May 14, 1915 and married Walter L. Couch; John R., who was born Feb. 16, 1880 and never married; Francina, born Sept. 25, 1882, died 1931, and was married to Raymond Hoard; Jessie F., born March 18, 1885, died Feb. 6, 1952 and was married to Maude Milburn; Fred W., born Dec. 31, 1887, died March 6, 1925, was married to Nora Hale. John Simmons was living on Bluff Creek when he died in 1921. Andrew Simmons died in Ford County, Kansas in 1904. (Jay S. Andrews, History of Bloom, Ks. 1963, pgs. 81-83.)
