Birth: Sep. 20, 1843
Meade County
Kentucky, USA
Death: Jun. 8, 1917
Harvey County
Kansas, USA

Ann Wimp was a daughter of Daniel F. Wimp, born in Kentucky and Rachel Welch, born in Maryland. Ann is also a sister to James A. Wimp (1837-1913) who is also buried there at Star Cemetery. Their mother Rachel (Welch) Wimp died between 1873 and 1875 and is buried here at Star Cemetery in an unmarked grave.

Ann's middle name Raley is taken fom her death certificate. Her middle name was spelled as Railey in the paperwork of the Kansas Masonic Home when her daughter Fannie (Shacklett) Pilkington entered there in 1965. It is not known which spelling is correct.

Ann Wimp was first married to William Kendall Shacklett in May 1861. William K. Shacklett is listed in a census with the occupation of Master Blacksmith.

Meade County marriage records show that William K. Shacklett, of age, born Meade Co., and Ann R. Wimp, cons., (mo. Rachel) born Meade Co., married May 16, 1861 by George H. Hayes.

William and Ann Shacklett had one child, Juliet Shacklett (1862-1880) who married George W. McMurry, son of James and Elizabeth McMurry. Juliet, along with her child, died in childbirth and are buried next to Juliet's mother Ann and step-father Blant at Star Cemetery.

During the Civil War, William K. Shacklett was a Confederate soldier (Capt.) and was killed on April 29, 1863 in the "Meadville Skirmish" at Meadville, Meade County, Kentucky. William Shacklett was buried there in Meadville Cemetery.

In January 1868, Ann (Wimp) Shacklett was married a for 2nd time to Blant Daniel Shacklett, a cousin to William K. Shacklett. Blant was also a former Confederate soldier in the Civil War.

In 1873, Ann and Blant Shacklett, along with the Joseph B. Fulton and James A. Wimp families traveled from Meade County, Kentucky to Harvey County, Kansas. Note that Mrs. Joseph Fulton (Margaret Wimp), Ann (Wimp) Shacklett and James Wimp are brother and sisters. Ann and Blant settled on 80 acres adjoining the south side of the James Wimp property, both farms which bordered the east side of present day Burmac Road and 1 mile due east of Star Cemetery.

A Wimp family story tells about aunt Ann Shacklett bringing biscuits to her nieces and nephews at the James and Jemima Wimp home. But when she arrived, the biscuits were gone. They had all fallen out of the container. Yet, the biscuits were all retrieved when they followed her tracks in the snow.

Blant and Ann Shacklett had 3 children:
1. William Hardee Shacklett (1868-1960) married Elsie L. Davis, burial at Wichita Park Cemetery, Wichita, Sedgwick County, Kansas.

2. Francis "Fannie" Esler Shacklett (1872-1967), who married Andrew A. Pilkington. Fannie is buried in the same plot with her husband and their son John (John Blant Pilkington) at Burrton Cemetery, Burrton, Harvey County, Kansas.

3. Albert Shacklett, who died in infancy. Unfortunately, nothing more is known about when or where this child died.

Ann Shacklett became a member of the Friendship Baptist Church of Patterson, Kansas in 1879.

Blant D. Shacklett died May 23, 1916.

Ann R. Shacklett died early Friday morning, June 8, 1917 at the home of her daughter Mrs. Fannie Pilkington in Burrton, Harvey County, Kansas.

A Burrton, Kansas newspaper obit reads;

"Death of Mrs. B. D. Shacklett-Mrs. B. D. Shacklett, one of the pioneer women of the west end of the county died this morning at an advanced age. The funeral will be held Saturday in Burrton at 2 o'clock at the home of her son-in-law, Andy Pilkington, with whom she has made her home of recent years. Rev. Gibson [This could be a misspelling of Rev. Beeler Gibbins?], Baptist pastor at Patterson will conduct the service. Mrs. Shacklett was the aunt of E. B. [Ephraim Blant Fulton was a son of Joseph B. Fulton and Margaret Wimp.] Fulton of Newton who was at Burrton yesterday having the opportunity to see his aunt shortly before she passed away."
