A serious and fatal shooting affray occured in the court house at this place on last Saturday, between John Barrett and Pleasant J. Duckwoth, in which Duckworth received one fatal wound, the ball passing thruough his left sholder and coming near the surface on the back, Both men had pistols, about 38 S,otj amd Wesspm. amd tjp best we cam ;earm fove sjpts were fored betweem them, only one taking effect.
Mr. Duckworth was taken to the Ozark Hotel, where his wound was dressed by Drs. Arnold, Small and Beach. He was then taken to D. McDonald's residence, where he was cared for until 8 o'clock Monday night when he died. His remains were carred to his home on Barren Fork, Tuesday and were to have been interred at Isabella Wednesday.
Barrett was arrested, but as to the strenght of the case againest him we can not state. The trouble grew out of na old grudge, entertained by the parties for some years. There was no quarral. The parties net in the hall of the court house, and the shooting commenced, without words so far as we can learn. The occurence is greatly to be deplored.
