He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers, Grady L. Brown, who served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II; John L. Brown, who served in the U.S. Army during World War II; Tommy H. Brown, who served in the U.S. Navy and died in Normandy, France during World War II; and Dennis Brown, who served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Rosemary Crawford Brown of Gordo, Ala.; his daughters, Valri E. Brown and Valynda B. Watson (Gary); four grandchildren, Travis Turnipseed, Brenton Turnipseed (Samantha), Courtney Watson, and Kendall Watson; and two great-grandchildren, Brody Turnipseed and Trace Turnipseed.
Jimmy was born June 1, 1928, in Echola, Alabama to the late Lewis Brown, who was a U.S. Army veteran of World War I, and Cordia Sullivan Brown. Senior Master Sgt. James W. Brown served in the U.S. Air Force for 22 years of active duty. He served during the Korean Conflict and flew combat missions in the Vietnam War. Following his retirement from the military, he served for 28 years with the U.S. Postal Service, was a motion picture projectionist for 20-plus years, and also earned his private pilot's license. He was a member of Gordo First Baptist Church.
Pallbearers will be Travis Turnipseed, Brenton Turnipseed, Sgt. Eddie Wilder, Tony McCrary, Walter Brown, Owens Brown, David Brown, Mike Sullivan, and retired Brigadier General Bill Guy.
Honorary pallbearers are Gordo High School Class of 1947 and Mr. and Mrs. Billy Koon.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Big Oak Boys and Girls Ranch, P.O. Box 507, Springville, AL 35146.
