1st Lieutenant Bartlett was the co-pilot of U.S. Air Force B-47E Stratojet #51-7047 when it collided with B-47E #53-1967 about 300 miles west of Shannon, Ireland, while enroute to Brize-Norton R.A.F., U.K. Pilot Robert C. Huber and 1st Lt. Gary Simpson, along with Lt. Bartlett were missing and presumed dead. It is unknown if any of the crew were able to eject from the bomber.
