"Lloyd W. Doner, 73, of DeKalb, died Tuesday, Dec. 27, 1994, at Kishwaukee Community Hospital in DeKalb.

He was born March 6, 1921, in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. He moved to the Hinckley area as a child, and graduated from Hinckley High School in 1939.

He worked briefly for the Wurlitzer Co. During World War II, he enlisted for four years, 1942 - 46, in the U.S. Marine Corps, and was assigned to the First Marine Air Wing of which he was a tail-gunner in Gruman dive bombers. He was in the first marine air group to hit the Solomon Islands in the South Pacific.

He married Mae Marie Swanson on May 31, 1943 while home on furlough. After discharge in 1946, he owned and operated a women's apparel shop for 18 years in DeKalb. He later worked for Jim Schultz Buick as a car salesman for 15 years, retiring in 1982.

He was a member of the Hillcrest Covenant Church, and American Legion Post 66 since 1946. He was past commissioner of the DeKalb Little League program as well as a coach and organized and assisted in the youth basketball program for many years. His latest hobby, wedding photography, turned into a small business.

He is survived by his wife, Mae Marie; one daughter, Diane Watson of DeKalb; one son, Jim Doner, of Phoenix, Ariz.; one granddaughter, Keri Lynn Reed of DeKalb; one grandson, Johnny Watson of DeKalb; one sister, Karen Kline of Hinckley; two brothers, Roger (Wilma) Doner of Broken Bow, Okla. and Gerald (Sharon) Hamilton of Auburn, Calif.; one sister-in-law, Edith Doner of Corpus Crhisti, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Lulu Hamilton and one brother, James Doner.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Hillcrest Covenant Church in DeKalb, with Rev. James R. Sandberg officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Park Cemetery in DeKalb. Visitation will be Friday from 11:30 a.m. unitl his time of the service at the funeral home.
