Harry A. Campbell, 80, of 422 Revere Road, Lancaster, PA, died peacefully surrounded by his family after a brief illness on Saturday, April 17, 2010. He was the loving husband of the late Eleanor Ann Hershberger Campbell, who recently died on October 24, 2009. He was the son of the late Harry Alton and Erma R. Mulhollem Campbell.
Harry was born in Bellwood, PA, and was a 1948 graduate of Bellwood-Antis High School. He graduated in 1957 from Juniata College with a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology. Harry worked for over 30 years with Mobil Oil as a Senior Marketing Representative for the Mid-Atlantic States. He proudly served his country with the United States Air Force as a Senior Airman E-5 and served in Germany after the Korean Conflict. Harry was a beloved and valued, long time member of the Lancaster Bicycle Club. He served as the club's Goodwill Ambassador in many roles: Board member, rides leader and sweep, self-appointed club photographer and mentor for new members. He was the club's newsletter coordinator for the area bicycle shops. Harry founded and organized the club's annual Spring Fling and contributed in many ways to the success of the annual Covered Bridge Metric Century charity ride. He established and supervised the LBC Adopted Highway for 17 years.
A member of Grandview Heights United Methodist Church, Harry was very active during his lifetime. Harry will be remembered for many things, such as his generosity, passionate personality, and grace. He was a Free and Accepted Mason, a member of the Lancaster North East Rotary Club, Manheim Township Baseball Association, a Troop Leader with the Boy Scouts of America, a Volunteer Youth Educator for the American Lung Association and until recently, worked as an Aerobics and Exercise Instructor.
Harry will be lovingly remembered by his three children; Douglas H., husband of Amy Marie Campbell, Millersville, PA; Leslie Ann, wife of Peter Zulch, Sherrill, NY; and Gordon B., husband of Janice Anne Campbell, Lancaster, PA; four grandchildren, and a brother, Kenneth B., husband of Gloria, Pittsburgh, PA.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Harry's Life Celebration Memorial Service at Grandview Heights United Methodist Church, 888 Pleasure Road, Lancaster, PA 17601 on Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. with The Rev. Chris McLaughlin officiating. Private interment will be held following the Memorial Service. The family will greet friends at the Church following the Interment. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Harry's name may be sent to the American Lung Association of Lancaster and Berks County, 603 Janet Ave., Lancaster, PA 17601 or the Lancaster Bicycle Club for Outreach to the Community, 1466 New Holland Pike, Lancaster, PA 17601-5695.
