Daughter of Edward Bridges of Keynsham, Amy was baptized on May 10, 1621 at Whitelackington, the residence of her mother Philippa Speke Bridges's family. On June 3, 1640 she married Thomas Symes at Keynsham, then afterwards settled at Winterbourne becoming the mother of twelve sons, including [birth order estimated] Thomas, George, John, Edward, William, Charles, Henry, Richard, Joseph, and Benjamin, as well as four daughters, Mary, Amy (wife of Samuel Trewman), Katherine (wife of Thomas Harris), and Elizabeth.

Five of her sons, George, John, William, Henry, and Richard, were merchant adventurers and ship masters of Bristol with holdings in Antigua.

In Memory of Amy, the wife of Thomas Symes, Esqr. of this Parish, Daughter of Edward Bridges, of Keynsham in the County of Somerset, Esqr. descended from the noble Family of the Lord Chandois, Baron of Sudely Castle in the County of Gloucester, who through her Extraction was Honourable, yet by her Examplary Life and Manners became an honour to her Family and after 17 Years spent in her minority and 20 Years in Wedlock in which interval she was mother of twelve Sons and four Daughters, changed this mortal State for an immortall the 30th of April 1662.
 
Note: On the monument are these Arms: Azure three escallops in pale Or [Symes], impaling, Argent on a cross sable a leopard's face Or [Bridges].
