He was the son of Charles Columbus 'Charley' Baker and Lucy Williamson from Galla Creek, Pope County Arkansas. In this family he is listed as 'M C Baker'. He had siblings John 'Doyle', Lillie 'Olive' or 'Ollie' Baker, and Joy Glendine Baker. He married Lucile Martin 18 Dec 1938 in Pope Co AR. He entered the service from Covina, California.

1st Lt Kenneth S Starcher and his crew were lost on a 'routine' flight from Lingling Airbase on the late afternoon of 28 May 1944, departing during conditions 'overcast with thunderstorms'. The crew of B-24J #42-73309 'Trouble Maker'(v1) were lost somewhere on the short flight to Kweilin; the report lists the cause of the loss as 'unknown'. The crew are all listed KNB (died non-combat mission). The crew members were~

As he died when Sgt Marcelus was only about four years of age, Lucy re-married to Z Taylor Johnson. She passed away in Covina, California 8 November 1966. Her mother was a Harkey.
