Thelma Olivia Holley, was born on January 13, 1909, to Sarah and Nelson Greer in Wharton, Texas. She was one of six children. She confessed a hope in Christ at an early age and was baptized.
She moved to San Francisco, California and united with the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in 1945 under the lat Pastor, Reverend P.S. Osborne; and continued to serve faithfully under the present Pastor, Reverend G.L. Bedford, Sr. As a servant she was a Sunday School Teacher, Secretary of the Deaconess Board, member of the Business and Professional Women's Circle of the Senior Mission Society, past President of the Nurses Aid Unit, and past member of the Inspirational Chorus.
Sister Holley dedicated her life to serving God, and helping her fellowman. She has served as a nurse for over 30 years, never hesitating to stop and help someone who had fallen ill, even when such has occurred on the street. She has also participated in many community organizations, which included past President of the American Legion, past President of the PTA, volunteer at the Youth Guidance Center, a Cub Scout Master, and a member of VFW and VA, a member of the Order of Eastern Star, and counselor of various youth organizations.
She departed this life and headed for glory on Sunday, February 9, 1986. She leaves to rejoice her homegoing, a devoted husband, James E. Holley; one sister, Mrs. Ann Washington; four children, Kempleton Giles, Jr., Mary Gray, Richard Thaxton, and Olivia Geter; two sons-in-law, Jimmy Gray, Sr. and Arcadia Geter; six grandchildren, Benson Jamison, Jimmy Gray, Jr., Olicia Thaxton, Jerri Gray, Richard Thaxton, Jr., and Crystal Perkins; a host of relatives, friends, and the entire Macedonia Baptist Church Family.
