C. Bennett, 50 years old, and Malcolm Flanagan, 31 years old, both of Newman, were killed when struck by lightning at 3:30 o'clock Thursday afternoon as they stood under a tree on the farm of Mr. Bennett, about 14 miles west of Owensboro, during a rainstorm. The Bennett farm is in Henderson County a short distance from the Daviess County line. The Henderson County Coroner was called to conduct the inquest ... Mr. Flanagan was a son of Mrs. C. K. Flanagan, of Newman. He was engaged in farming. He is survived by his mother, and the following sisters and a brother: Mrs. Wilbur Perkins, Miss Margaret Flanagan, Newman; Mrs. Robert Raley, Mrs. Charles Dunn, Mrs. Albert Mattingly, all of Reed; Mrs. Raymond Hoskins, Owensboro, and Lilburn Flanagan, Evansville. The body of Mr. Flanagan was removed to a Henderson funeral home last night, from which the last rites will be conducted Saturday morning. Funeral services for Mr. Flanagan will be held at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Reed, Ky at 9 o'clock Saturday morning. The Rev. Cornelius Hoolveld, pastor, will conduct the services. Pallbearers will be Herbert Fulkerson, Charles Drury, Jr., Bernard Murphy, Huston Dunn, Thomas Murphy and Pat Murphy.
