Mrs Beckham Garrison of Seguin died Wednesday, Feb 10, at the age of 90. She was born July 17, 1897, to James Madison and Winfred Rebecca Beckham in Ruston, La. She was one of three children, having one brother and one sister. All spent their formative years in Ruston.
She attended Louisiana Polytechnic University in Ruston and graduated with a bachelors degree in home economics and education. Through the years she taught virtually every grade from first to 12th. One of her more challenging teaching experiences was in the one room school in Live Oak. Each morning before school the wood stove had to be tended to and water pumped from the nearby well.
On Dec 28, 1927, she married Dwight N Garrison in Ruston. Dwight was also an educator teaching chemistry on the high school college and university level. He was a chemistry professor at Texas Lutheran College. He was born May 29, 1895, and preceded his wife in death in Dec. 1971.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, and was active in Women of the Church and the Eastern Star. She enjoyed gardening. Survivors include a son Dwight N Garrison of Carmarillo, Calif., three grandchildren and two nephews. Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb 13 at the First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev Carl McCauley officiating. Interment followed in the Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park.
