Freeman Roy Barber Sr. of Mentone, born in Indianfields, Michigan, had lived in Mentone for 20 years, died of cancer on Sunday at his daughter's home in Redlands at the age of 80. He was a landscape gardener and rancher for 65 years and a member of Brookside Free Methodist Church. He was survived by his wife, Marian, his son, Freeman Jr. of Phelan, four daughters, Edith R. Ecker of Colorado Springs, Dorothy Thomas of Colton, Florence Crum of Redlands and Barb Barber of Yucaipa, his brother, Maurice of Pontiac, Michigan, two sisters, Eva Collins of Michigan and Florence Eimers of Tarpon Springs, Florida, 15 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. Chapel service is set for 10 a.m. on Wednesday at Cortner Chapel with interment to follow at Montecito Memorial Park. The family suggests donations be sent to Redlands Community Hospice in his member.

He married Evelyn Rosetta Pulsifer on July 6, 1939, and after her death, he married Marian Elizabeth Gemmell of California May 18, 1985 in Clark County, Nevada. He died in Redlands, California on April 28, 1996.
