"Ralph Jacob Golladay was the youngest of six children. His parents were descendants of German immigrants who made their new home in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, near Quicksburg. His father left the area at a youthful age for employment, and as a result, he was born at Harrisonburg.
Employment also caused his father to move the family to Waynesboro, Virginia and here he graduated from High School. He found employment with DuPont Company at Waynesboro. He married HeLone France (Harlow) Golladay, and had two children when World War II interrupted his life. He served three years in the Air Force, one year being in the combat zone of the Mediterranean Sea area.
Upon retirement from the Army in 1946, he entered Virginia Polytechnic Institute in the study of Chemical Engineering. After five years he was awarded a Master of Science Degree. By this time, his family had grown to five children, and he decided to go to work. He returned to Waynesboro, Virginia and accepted employment with his old employer, DuPont. Here he stayed until his retirement in 1977.
Although his employment stayed on course, his marital relations were not so harmonious. In 1959, Ralph and his wife both decided their family would be happier if they separated, and after two years of separation, they divorced, on grounds of incompatibility. In 1962, Ralph remarried, to his present wife Ann Margaret. They had no children of our own, and continued to live in Waynesboro.
After his retirement in 1977, Ann and Ralph decided to study the genealogy of their respective families, and they worked along together until Ralph's passing. GOLLADAYS IN AMERICA, published in 1982 & 1983, was the result of these efforts, and could not have been done without Ann's help.
On 4 March 1992, Ralph Jacob Golladay passed away. He was buried in Augusta Memorial Cemetery, Fisherville, Virginia, a few miles West of his home in Waynesboro. His widow Ann Margaret still lives in the Waynesboro family residence, and continues to actively support the research on the Golladay family. For that continuing assistance, this author, Walter D Golladay, of THE GOLLADAY FAMILY IN AMERICA, is most grateful."
