Clarion Democrat - July 7, 1904

Jacob Bittenbender, of Curllsville, died on June 22, 1904, at the age of 80 years, 4 months and 29 days. Mr. Bittenbender was born, lived and died on the old homestead. For many years he was a member of the Reformed church. Almost 8 years ago he was stricken with paralysis and his condition for awhile seemed hopeless. However, in a little time he revived and was able to move around but was not able to do any work. Some seven or eight months ago he was stricken down and lost his sense of speech. From that time on he suffered more or less until the end came on June 22nd, when he passed from the repose of sleep into the repose of death. His beloved wife, two daughters and a son received the sympathy of a large number of friends and neighbors. The interment was made in the Churchville cemetery where the remains were committed to their last resting place. May the Lord comfort the bereaved friends.
