Texas Hall of Famer, Ancel Horton, 63, passed away Friday, Nov. 4, 2005, surrounded by family.
Funeral: noon Tuesday at Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Chapel. Burial: Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park. Visitation: The family will host friends and relatives 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home.
Ancel was born April 6, 1942, in Hamilton and graduated from Arlington Heights High School in 1960. Ancel owned and operated the Mobil station at Hemphill and Berry for 30 years. He also turned his love of drag racing into a second career. He was a member of Texas Drag Racing Hall of Fame, NHRA, IHRA, ANDRA, ProJet, Racers for Christ and DRAW. He has driven more jet cars than any other driver and still currently holds countless records. Ancel often took time out of his busy schedule to perform for benefits and charities such as Toys for Tots and Make a Wish Foundation. Ancel is known as "the Godfather of jet car racing," by all of those in the racing community. Ancel was preceded in death by his parents, Ancel Horton Sr. and Margie Horton.
Survivors: Wife, Peggie Horton; son, Lance and wife, Jennifer; daughter, Melissa and husband, Clark Elmore; daughter, Jackie Branco; sisters, Elma Keahey, Doris Autrey and Valerie Stowe; grandchildren, Larry, Diana, Cameron, Shelby, Blake, Paige, Brooke; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members
