The son of Henry & Margaret Peck, in 1860, he was a farmer living in Tyrone Township, Perry County, Pennsylvania. He stood 5' 7" tall and had light hair and brown eyes.

A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in Newville, Cumberland County, August 6, 1862, mustered into federal service at Harrisburg August 12 as a private with Co. E, 130th Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged with his company May 21, 1863. He then enlisted in Newville June 20, 1863, and mustered into state service at Harrisburg June 26 as a private with Co. F, 1st Pennsylvania (Ramsey's) Battalion. He re-enlisted and mustered into federal service at Chambersburg January 1, 1864, as a sergeant with Co. D, 187th Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged with his company August 3, 1865.

He married Lizzie Evans January 23, 1868, in Newville and fathered Harry H. (b. 03/06/69) and Annie (b. 03/08/71). Cause of death was a lung disease, possibly tuberculosis. The widowed Lizzie married Henry H. Dinkle April 18, 1884, and was re-widowed in 1902.
