MADISON - Shirley Ann "Papa" Helgeland, age 62, of Madison, died on Thursday, Aug. 14, 2003, at Belmont Nursing Home, following a long illness. She was born on July 1, 1941, in Tobinsport, Ind., the daughter of Ernest and Lula (Applegate) Gude. She has been a long time Madison resident. She was a long time member of the St. Dennis Catholic Church. She loved spending time with her granddaughter, Schaynna, doing crafts, going for ice cream and trips to the pet store. She is survived by her best friend and daughter, Kimberly (Nathan) Hill of McFarland; son, Larry Boots of Indiana; brother, Earnest Gude of Indiana; sisters, Bobby Morris of Devils Elbow, Mo., Peggy (Gene) Crawford and Barb (Paul) Bertinotti; and three grandchildren, Schaynna Olund, Larry Boots Jr., III, Tiffany Boots, and soon to be Lieghla Rose; and special friend, Ginny (Dave) Bares. She was preceded in death by her parents and several brothers and sisters. She was a remarkable lady who touched everyone she met. During her long illness, she always had a smile even though she was in pain. She cared so much about others and her family. Funeral services will be held at ST. DENNIS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 413 Dempsey Rd., on Monday, Aug. 18, 2003, at 11 a.m. Father Kent Schmitt will officiate. Friends may call at the church on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Entombment will be held at the Resurrection Cemetery.
