Jim had had a long and illustrious career with Georgia Power Company where he was first employed as a GA Tech Co-op student in the electrical engineering department in 1951.
He received his Bachelors and Masters degrees in Electrical Engineering from GA Tech. His dedication and commitment to excellence had earned him the Georgia Power Engineering Association Engineer of the Year Award in 1969 and in 2006 their Lifetime Achievement Award. An avid historian, Jim had served as a consultant to the Georgia Power Company Corporate Archives and had recently donated to the Archives his lifetime collection of electric meters. This massive collection is said by archivist Dr. Margaret Calhoon to be perhaps the largest such collection in the country.
He was a recent participant in the Georgia Tech Living History (oral history) Program. Jim was a life member of IEEE and a member of the Lutheran Church of The Redeemer since 1954. Quiet and unassuming, Jim was a respected mentor and friend and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Dekle Huddleston; son, Kelly Huddleston (JoEllen); daughter, LoisHuddleston-Guzzardi (Victor); mother, Louise Davis Huddleston; brothers, Mickey (Helen) Huddleston, Dr. Keith (Victoria) Huddleston; sister, Linda (John) Huckeba; 5 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; as well as nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, J. D. Huddleston, Jr. and brother, Gordon Huddleston.
Jim loved his friends, family and his hometown of Boston, GA in Thomas County where a graveside service was conducted on Saturday, May 15th by the Rev. Don West, Pastor of Boston Presbyterian Church.
