Death of an Aged Lady
On Saturday night, June 5th, Mrs. Mary Porter died at her home in Napa City, at the advanced age of 88 years. She was born in Pennsylvania in 1798, and in 1853 came to California, and resided in Napa up to the time of her death. "Grandma Porter" as she was affectionately called, by a large circle of friends, was the mother of Joseph and S. F. Henry of Napa, A. C. Henry of Chico, and Milo F. Robinson of San Joaquin. She was the ancestor of ten children, forty grand children, forty-four great-grand children, and thirteen great-great-grand children, most all of whom are living. She was born when Washington was President, and lived contemporaneous with all the Presidents of the United States. She became a member of the Christian Church early in the "reformation" and when the last sleep came she could say with Paul, :I have fought the good fight, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness which the Lord, the righteour Judge, shall give me at that day."
The funeral took place Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Christian Church, Elder Wood conducting the service and the following named gentlemen acting as pall bearers: W. C. S. Smith, John Smith, F. L. Jackson, M. Shaw and A. G. Boggs.
