Dorothy A. Wels, 83, of Epworth, Iowa, formerly of Budd Road, Dubuque, died Wednesday, April 25, 2012, at home surrounded by her family.
Services will be at noon Friday, April 27, at Egelhof, Siegert and Casper Westview Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 2659 Kennedy Road, with the Rev. Diane Grace officiating. Burial will be in the Asbury Cemetery. Friends may call after 9 a.m. Friday, until the time of services at the funeral home.
Dorothy was born on March 23, 1929, in Mosalem, Iowa, daughter of Arvel and Tillie (Hantelman) Heacock. She married Ray H. Wels on Oct. 16, 1947, at Grace Church; he preceded her in death on May 7, 1977.
Dorothy lived in Dubuque all of her life and after she retired from farming moved to Epworth. She was a long-time member of the former Asbury United Methodist Church.
Dorothy was devoted to her family and enjoyed polka music, dancing and fishing.
Surviving are her children, Dale (Diana) Wels, of Asbury, Iowa, Doris (Kenneth) McDermott and Dolores (Carl) McDermott, both of Bernard, Iowa; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Ann Heacock, of Asbury; a brother-in-law, Peter Merkes, of Wisconsin; and a special friend, Bob Tucker, of Epworth.
She was preceded in death by her son, Henry Wels; her daughter, Jane Wels; her parents; two brothers, Louis and Allen Heacock; and two sisters, Yvonne Merkes and Florence Heacock.
