Winnie Mae Cressey was born in Altona, NY, on Nov. 22, 1909, to Eugene and Jennie Miller Cressey. She attended the Salvation Army School for Officers' Training. After her commissioning as a Lieutenant, Winnie served at the Boston Foundling Hospital as a sterilization nurse.

Winnie was married to Victor Stay on June 21, 1934, and had three children, Shirley Mae, Jean Ann, and Phylis Helen. Winnie and Victor were Salvation Army Officers serving in Amsterdam, NY, Herkimer, NY, Beverly, MA, and Fitchburg, MA. After Victor's sudden death in 1944, Winnie remarried in 1948 in Cohoes, NY. She and her second husband, Matthew Paul Wilkolaski, had two children, Mary Jane Wilkolaski Long and Marsha Lee Wilkolaski Virkler Stanford.

Winnie Wilkolaski served as a local officer of the Cohoes Salvation Army for many years, primarily as Home League Secretary and as Financial Secretary.

Winnie had six sisters, Agnes Wilson, Helen Waldron, Minnie Goebel (Winnie's twin), Goldie Farrell, and Hazel Thompson.

Half brothers and sisters from her father's first marriage to Viola Emerson (died in 1905) include: Earl Orson Cressey, Lynn Cressey Alford (adopted by the Alford family after his mother's death), Lena Cressey Derrah, Myrtle Cressey (died in her early 20's from TB), and Edna Cressey Miller Clarke. Edna's first marriage was to her step-mother Jennie's brother, William Miller. Robert and Edna were parents to one son, Robert Miller. William Miller died in his early twenties from diabetes. He was blind from the disease.

Winnie's half-siblings from her father's third marriage to Grace LaPointe Bourdeau include: Maurice, Donald, Clovis,Betty, and Madeline.
