MRS. ELIZABETH T. CUNNINGHAM, Mrs. Elizabeth Temperence (Weakland) relict of James Cunningham, deceased of Carroll Township, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Agnes Bagley, in Altoona, on Sunday, May 21st, 1899 of old age, at the ripe age of 82 years. Deceased was eldest daughter of William Weakland of Carroll Township, and was born April 9, 1817. She was married June 27, 1838 to James Cunningham by Rev. D.A. Gallitzin at Loretto. To this union was born 8 children: The eldest, William died in infancy. The second, Augustine died in 1886 at the age of 46. The third, Michael died in 1864 at the age of 21 years. The fourth, Annie, was married to Wm. A. Gray, June 21, 1872 and died in 1873, age 27 years, leaving one child, Emma, now Mrs. John P. Hopkins of Altoona. The fifth, Lizzie, was married to John Miller, June 27, 1869, and died April 1870, leaving one child Edward A. Miller. The sixth, William F., lives in Susquehanna township. The seventh, Agnes is married to James A. Bagley and lives in Altoona. The eighth and youngest is Mary, who makes her home with her sister Mrs. Bagley.
Besides the two daughters and one son she is survived by 18 grandchildren and one great grand child; also by one brother, and two sisters: Michael M. Weakland; Miss Suzie Weakland and Mrs. Wm. Switzler.
The subject of this sketch, after her marriage to Mr. Cunningham resided with him upon what is now the Peter Helfrich farm in Elder Township, 14 years after which they moved to the farm in Carroll Township where they remained until the death of Mr. Cunninhgam in March 1885. After that she made her home with her son William F. in Susquehanna Township.
Her body was brought from Altoona on Tuesday. Funeral took place on Wednedsay and was largely attended. She was laid to rest in the cemetery at St. Joseph's Church in Carroll Township, beside the last resting place of her husband, on Wednesday May 24th.
Mrs. Cunningham's life was an example of noble womanhood. She was an exemplary christian, a devoted wife and mother; ever kind and considerate to all. Of her it can be truly said that those who knew her best, loved and respected her most.
