============================================================

Gypsie Bernice (Skinner) Barbado is the youngest child of four born to William "Willie" Charles Skinner and Marian Maude (Keene) Skinner. Gypsie was just a few months shy of her 3rd birthday when her father Willie died at Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. Her siblings had been Gyp's siblings:

1-Harry James Skinner (1899 1928) m. Ethel May Rapson of Pickford, MI; 3 children

2-Amber Rosella Skinner (1902 1993) m. Roy C. Hart of Pickford, MI; 8 children

3-Clark William Skinner (1907 1973) m. Janice Hatfield of Pickford, MI; no children.

On 30 Jul 1951, Gypsie married George Carmen Angelo Barbado (sometimes spelled Barbato), eldest child of Michele "Michael" Barbato and Louise (Monk, Cooper) Barbato.

George and Gypsie had one child, who died in infancy:

1-Linda Louise Barbado (12 Mar 1952-10 Nov 1952)

Together George and Gypsie owned and operated the West Pier Drive-In on the western edge of Portage Avenue (601 W. Portage) in the Soo (Sault Ste. Marie, Chippewa, MI). Nestled almost beneath the International Bridge to Canada from Michigan, the couple built a well-known restaurant with interesting views of the St. Mary's River and the Bridge. Often referred to still by locals as "Barbado's West Pier Drive-In", the restaurant continues to thrive today, with large portions and curbside/window service much like it was in the 1950s/1960s.
