================================================================

George Carmen Angelo Barbado (Barbato) is the first-born and only son of Michele "Michael" Barbato (1885 Italy - 1970 Michigan) and Louise (Monk, Cooper) Barbato (1887 England - 1952 Michigan). Michael and Louise -- both first generation immigrants from Europe -- were married 24 Jun 1916 in Sault Ste Marie, Chippewa, Michigan (SOURCE: "Michigan, Marriages, 1868-1925", original image, www.familysearch.org).

George had two sisters:

1) Lucille Cooper, b. 1910, DeTour, Chippewa, MI (half-sister from mother Louise's first marriage).

2) Dominick Barbado (Barbato), b. about 1932, Sault Ste. Marie, Chippewa, MI

At this time, I have found no other information on either sister.

George served in the U.S. Navy in World War II, enlisting on 03 Jan 1942 and released on 01 Oct 1945.

On 30 Jul 1951, George married Gypsie Bernice Skinner, youngest child of William "Willie" Charles Skinner (1871-1917) and Marian Maude Keene (1880-1972). Gypsie was a few months shy of her 3rd birthday when her father died at Mayo Clinic in Minnesota.

George and Gypsie had one child, who died in infancy:

Linda Louise Barbado (12 Mar 1952-10 Nov 1952)

Together George and Gypsie owned and operated the West Pier Drive-In on the western edge of Portage Avenue (601 W. Portage) in The Soo (Sault Ste. Marie, Chippewa, MI USA). Nestled almost beneath the International Bridge to Canada, the couple built a well-known restaurant with interesting views of the St. Mary's River and the Bridge. Often referred to still by locals as "Barbado's West Pier Drive-In", the restaurant continues to thrive today, with large portions of the menu and curbside/window service much like it was in the 1950s/1960s.
