According to Henry Ward Beecher Hewen's probate record his estate at time of his death was worth 12,000.00. He was leaving his estate to his wife Effie Hewen in the amount of 10,000.00. He donated some money to several Human Societies in Washington & New York and other agencies. On page 3 of the probate record it states that a boy named Gus Petersen Hewen was not his son but was raised as such was to have his a Silver Watch and upon the death of Effie Gus was the have HWB Hewen's miscellaneous library.
However once Effie died her family sued for everything and it seems to me the Gus Petersen Hewen never received anything.
*A special Thank you to Kahpo (#47817554) for all of the wonderful photos of the Hewen headstones.
