Elise was born on her Grampa Lines farm to George S. Burt, Jr. and Lilian Emily Frances Blenkarn. She was the eldest of five children. She had 1 sister and 3 brothers. Elsie grew up in a Christian home where the church was the center of the family's life - spiritual, social and community. Her family moved to Topeka in 1912. She married Fred Grimm (son of Edward U. Grimm and Martha Cloud) on 10 Jun 1914 in Topeka, Kansas. Elsie and Fred had 2 daughters:

They spent the first 5 years of their married life in Eastern Kansas in rural areas not far from Topeka renting several different farms, but felt they wanted something of their own, and then is when they discovered the "stump ranch" in Idaho. So with Elsie's parents, in the fall of 1919 they moved to Sandpoint, Idaho. It was not easy making a living there and before long Fred went to work on the Great Northern section crew at Colburn, three miles from the small farm. He worked on the Railroad and farmed util a heart attack forced him to quit the railroad. He recovered enough to farm a small herd of cows for seven years the had another heart attack so he sold his cattle and rented the crop land to others. He enjoyed a few years of retirement before he died in 1956 of a stroke. Elsie and Fred were active in community affairs, and Fred served on the local school board for a number of years. They worked with a small rural church and Sunday school nearby. After her husband died, Elsie took a correspondence course in Christian writing and during the next sixteen years had a number of small articles and stories published in various magazines. Then in 1971 she had her book, "Laurel" published. This is a teenage Christian Fiction book. At the time of her death she had finished another book but did not have the final work don on it and her daughter, Sylvia did the final typing of it, but had a hard time getting it published. Elsie's health began to fail and in October of 1970 she sold the farm and moved to Belgrade to make her home with her daughter Margaret. In Dec. of 1971 she became ill with pneumonia and on 17 Jan 1982 passed away in Bozeman Hospital.
