PAMPA - William Augustus "Bill" Toland, 91, died Monday, Aug. 24, 2009.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors Colonial Chapel with John Curry officiating. Burial with military honors by U.S. Army from Fort Hoodwill be in Miami Cemetery in Miami.

Mr. Toland was born Nov. 5, 1917, in Kenefic, Okla. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Airborne Infantry, serving from December 1941 until November 1953. He attended officer's candidate school in 1942, and then served overseas for two years. Bill began working for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. in 1948, retiring in the early 1980s. He married Darlene Fulton on July 23, 1949, in El Paso. She preceded him in death in 1992. He was a member of First United Methodist Church.

The family would like to gratefully acknowledge his special caregivers, especially Juanita Munoz.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Beatrice Toland Crouch; and two brothers, Dillard Toland and Hiram Toland.

Survivors include a sister, Sybil Toland Offield of Breckenridge; a special friend, Lillian Esson of Pampa; extended family, David and Lynn Ferrell and their son, Brett, all of Pampa; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family suggests memorials be to First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 1981, Pampa, TX 79066-1981; or BSA Hospice, 800 N. Sumner St., Pampa, TX 79065.
