Abbot D. Boyington
Abbot D. Boyington, age 89, a member of a family prominantly identified with the early days of lumbering industry in Portage county, died tuesday night at a Kenosha hospital, where he had been a patient for two years.
Mr. Boyington was born on May 19, 1857, at Wautoma, where his parents, Nathaniel and Annis Boyington, had located in 1851 and for several years operated the Boyington House. The family came to Portage county in 1865 and settled in town of Sharon. The Senior Mr. Boyington became engaged in the lumber business and built a lumber mill in Sharon, at what was known for many years as Boyington's Mill.
During his youth, Abbot Boyington went west where he lived for a short time and then returned to Sharon. He then drove stage coach between Stevens Point and the town of Alban for a time. His marriage to Miss Ida Harrold took place in Sharon on Dec 22, 1879. After their marriage the couple resided in Minnesota for a few years, then at Boyington's Mill, later moving to Stevens Point. During his residence in Stevens Point, Mr. Boyington was employed a baggageman for Wisconsin Central railroad and later the Soo Line. Mrs. Boyington died in 1917.
Mr. Boyington remained in Stevens Point until about 1920 when he removed to Kenosha where he was employed by the Nash Motor Company. He resided there with a son, A. E. Boyington and later a daughter, Mrs. Frank Hornung until entering the hospital.
Surviving are 10 children, C.S. Boyington and Richard D. Boyington of Stevens Point, Mrs. Walter Francks and Vernon H. Boyington of Sandpoint, Idaho, Mrs. Percy Hallack of Morse, Ashland county, Mrs. Hornung, Mrs. Harold Granger and A.E. Boyington of Kenosha, C.K. Boyington of Donnybrook, N.D., and Miss Madge Boyington of Chicago, 29 grand-children and 22 great grand children. Mr. Boyington was last of a family of eight children.
Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Hanson Funeral home at Kenosha. The body will then be brought to Stevens Point, arriving early Friday morning on a Soo Line train. It will be taken to Boston Funeral Home. Services here will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Forest cemetery.
