Robert L. Tucker, 63, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2008, after a long illness.Bob was born on June 28, 1945, in Charleston to Charles Clifford and Helen Maxine Tucker.
He graduated from Stonewall Jackson High School. In his early years, he worked as an embalming assistant and ambulance driver for Cunningham Funeral Home and later as an assistant at Elk Funeral Home, Bob retired from American-Electric Power with over 35 years of service. He traveled throughout Kentucky, Ohio, Virginia and southern West Virginia, working in the transmission and station departments. Bob was a loyal and devoted employee who often worked in the toughest weather conditions to keep the power on.
Bob was an active volunteer with the Charleston West Lions Club and the Optimist Club of South Charleston. His work benefited hundreds of families throughout the years. Bob loved the West Virginia culture and was an encyclopedia of knowledge regarding ramps, bluegrass, country roads and people. He was an avid talker and never failed to strike up a conversation with anyone he met.
Bob is survived by his wife, Mary Tucker; daughters, Robin Tucker and Susan McIntyre; sister, Nancy Moulder; brother, Ed Tucker; and his two favorite grandchildren, Elizabeth and Ty McIntyre.
Service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 28, 2008, at McKinnon Presbyterian Church, 4278 W. Washington St., Charleston, with the Rev. Wayne Burch officiating. Entombment will be in the Grandview Memorial Park Mausoleum, Dunbar.Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Elk Funeral Home, 2001 Pennsylvania Ave., Charleston.Arrangements are in the care of Elk Funeral Home, Charleston.
