Joyce (Ward) Adams, 64, of Burgundy Hill Lane, Middletown, passed away Wednesday (June 16, 2010) at Middlesex Hospital after a long, courageous battle with cancer. Joyce was born March 30, 1946 in Newark, New Jersey, the daughter of the late Kenneth and Yvonne (Jullien) Ward. Joyce was a veteran of the U. S. Army having served during the Vietnam War. She retired from Windham Hospital as an LPN. While working as an LPN, one of her patients inspired her to learn sign language, which she taught her grandchildren. Ironically, after learning sign language, Joyce lost her sight. After retiring, she became a full-time grandmother and it was in this role she was happiest. She is survived by her son, Ted Adams of Kentucky; two daughters, Lisa Debo and her husband Giorgio of Middletown, Susan Beaulieu and her husband Eric of Storrs; a brother, Kevon Ward and a sister, Jeri Ireland, both of California; brother-in-law, Vincent Neuroth of New Jersey; and her five cherished grandchildren, Thomas, Morgan, Alex, Gavin and Amanda. Joyce's family would like to thank Middlesex Hospital, Hospice Unit, for their care and compassion. Friends may call at Biega Funeral Home, 3 Silver St., Middletown on Monday from 6-8 p.m. Burial, with Military Honors, will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to the American School for the Deaf, 139 North Main St., West Hartford, CT 06107. To leave a message of condolence, please visit www.biegafuneralhome.com
