Donald L. Bridges
Donald L. Bridges, 90, died Thursday, June 26, 2008 at Hillside Village in De Soto. Graveside Services 9:30 am Monday, July 30, 2008 at Highland Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are suggested to Hospice Care of Kansas. Don was born in Kansas City, KS, and was a lifelong Kansas City area resident. He graduated from Wyandotte High School in 1936, where he played two years of varsity football, basketball, and track. He married Margaret Greenway on Jan. 3, 1942. After working 6 years at Edwards Tobacco Co., Don went into the Navy Air Corp, during World War II. He worked for Phillips Oil Co. for 6 years, Feld Chevrolet Co. for 28 years, 14 years in sales and 14 years as Vice President of the company before retiring in 1978. Don came out of retirement and worked for the Board of Education in the school bus department. He worked there for 19 years as a bus driver and bus driver aide. With his years at Felds, Don was Vice President of the Ban Johnson Baseball League working under President Les Milgram. From his teams (11 players signed Pro Contracts), four of his players went to the Major League, Paul Lindblad, Skip James, Steve Renko, and Frank White. His wife, Margaret preceded him in death on February 2, 2008. He is survived by his nephew, David Fisher. (Condolences may be expressed at: www.porterfuneralhome.com
