Celcis A. Easterling, affectionately known as "C.A.", 95 of Slate Branch Road, Somerset, KY departed this life Mon, June 11, 2012 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital. He was born on Nov 20, 1916 in Hitchens, KY to the late Corbin and Georgia Burton Easterling. He was a retired World War II veteran serving as 1st Lieutenant in the United States Army. He retired in 1981 after 22 years as a Construction foreman for Blue Diamond Coal Corporation. Throughout the years, C.A. was active with the Kentucky Baptist Brotherhood Convention and the Kentucky Baptist/Southern Baptist Disaster Relief and American Red Cross, helping in such disasters as Hurricanes Andrew and Hugo and The Mississippi Floods, all of which he received commendation honors. He was very active in the life of Slate Branch Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday School teacher and Deacon Emeritus. For forty-three years, he was married to Janice Reese, who preceded him in death in 2011. His first wife, Violet Stevens preceded him in death in 1967. C.A. is survived by his daughter, Mary Elizabeth of Wilder, KY; two sons, Corbin of Paris, TN and Richard (and Brenda) of Gamaliel, KY, a daughter-in-law, Rose Marie of Lima, OH; eight grandchildren, Rick, Cyndi, Richard, Christian, Teresa, Rebecca, Curtis and Patricia; ten great grandchildren, Katie, Sara, Meredith, Leann, Josh, David, Joey, Chelsea, Lacey and Destiny; four great-great grandchildren; a sister, Jose Mae Lakin of Pikeville, KY; a special caregiver, Carolyn Bryant; and a host of other family and friends. Along with his parents and wives, he was preceded in death by two sons, C. Michael and Gary; two daughters, Virginia and Melinda; four brothers, Gauk, Elijah, Floyd and Chuck; and one sister, Erma Bartley of Pikeville, KY. Visitation for Mr. Easterling will be Thu, June 14th after 5pm at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home, 1046 West Highway 80, Somerset, KY. Funeral service will be held at 10am on Fri, June 15th at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with his pastor, Reverend Bill Dawson and Reverend Gilbert Robinson officiating. Burial will be in the Camp Nelson National Cemetery in Nicholasville, KY.
