Villa Pearl Wharton Porter
DALHART - Villa Pearl Wharton Porter, 96, died Thursday, Nov. 28, 2002.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by Horizon Funeral Home.
Mrs. Porter was born June 5, 1906, in Gentry, Mo., to Walter G. and Hettie Walker Wharton. Villa's family moved from Gentry in 1908 and settled near the little town of Ware on a farm and then moved to the Bunker Hill Community northwest of Dalhart.
Villa was a longtime resident of Dalhart. She was a faithful member of the local Seventh-Day Adventist Church of which she served as treasurer for many years. She was a member of Chamberlain Home Demonstration Club and also an active member of the quilting department of the Dalhart Senior Citizens Center.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Roy Wharton and Rue Wharton; two sisters, Secile Gill and Margaret Wagoner; her husband, Lee M. Porter; and two sons, Alton Porter and Wendell Porter.
Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Juanita Porter; a sister-in-law, Grace Wharton; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
