LaVar Miller Black, 83, died 13 October 1983 in a Price hospital.

LaVar was born 05 November 1899 in Huntington to Miller Snow Black & Susan Julia Sherman Black. He attended Huntington Elementery & Huntington High School. He attend Utah State Agricultural College in Logan, Utah and went a LDS mission to Mexico from 1925-1928.

He married Mary Emily Lemmon 01 October 1930 who died and then he married Lelia Bunderson 08 June 1938 in the Logan LDS Temple. They adopted two children: Daniel LaVar Black and DeeAnn Black Jensen.

He worked the family farm, social worker during the depression. He loved missionary work, he served a mission in Mexico from 1925-1928. He was active in the LDS church and was second counselor in the Emery Stake 1944-1958. He and his wife Lelia went a mission to Texas 1972-1973 and they were ordinance workers in the Manti Temple from 1974-1978. He is a member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce and charter member of the Huntington Glee Club.

Survivors: wife, Huntington; son, Daniel LaVar Black, Huntington; DeAnn B. Jensen, Cleveland; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Mrs. Henry (Nora) Kartchener, Price; Mrs. Orlon (Meleta) Brockbank, Huntington.

Services were held Saturday, 15 October 1983 in the Huntington LDS Ward Chapel. Interment, Huntington City Cemetery.
