Ora E. Carlisle, 89, of Jonesville, passed away Thursday, Feb. 5, 2009, at Drews Place in Hillsdale.
He was born March 29, 1919, in Hillsdale to Lewis and Mary (Fenstermaker) Carlisle.
He was married Jan. 4, 1940, to Merle Galloway and she preceded him in death in 1989.
He was married Feb. 14, 1990, to Lowell Ball and she preceded him in death in 2006.
Ora was a retired diesel mechanic for the Board of Public Utilities.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having fought at the Battle of the Bulge and was a recipient of the BRONZE STAR.
He was a member of the American Legion in Hillsdale and was an avid pheasant hunter.
He is survived by a son, Clyde (Mary) Carlisle of Quincy; three brothers, Darrel (June) Carlisle and George (Sue) Carlisle both of Hillsdale, and Glen (Sharon) Carlisle of Jonesville; five grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Besides his wives Merle and Lowell, Ora was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Ora Lee Carlisle and Gloria Jean Blaker; two sisters, Dora Brown and Judy Mann; and two brothers, Robert and Clyde Carlisle.
A memorial service for Ora E. Carlisle will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14 at the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale with the Rev. Nelson Brandymore officiating.
The family will receive friends for visitation from 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14 until the time of the service.
