Funeral service for Mrs. Willie Mae Hunter, 86, of Alexander City wil be Saturday, Sept. 18, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Hillview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Friday, Sept. 17, 2010 from 5-8 p.m. at Radney Funeral Home.

Mrs. Hunter passed away on Saturday, Sept. 11, 2010 at Baptist Medical Center, South. She was born on October 17, 1923 in Randolph county, Alabama to William Green Vowell and Bertie Ann Parmer Vowell.

She attended Gray Hill School in LaGrange, GA. She married Fred L. Hunter of LaGrange in 1942. She worked a few years at Calloway Mills in LaGrange. In 1956, they moved to Alexander City, AL. She worked at WRFS Radio Station as a secretary before becoming employed as secretary for Mr. Pete Bailey at Russell Mill No. 8 until retiring in 1988. She belonged to Beta Sigma Phi Women's Soroity and was a member of several Bridge clubs. After retiring, she enjoyed traveling with the Prestige 55 Club. She was a life-long Baptist and member of First Baptist Church in Alexander City since 1956. In later life, she enjoyed volunteering in the church library.

She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Fred L. Hunter of Alexander City; daughters, Frederica Hunter Carson (Bill), Hilton Head, SC, Nancy Hunter Miller (Keith), Concord, NC, Pam Hunter Agnor (Mike), Ponte Vedra Beach, FL; seven beloved grandchildren, Beth Carson Cornstock, Aimee Carson McDowell, Summer Agnor, Lauren Agnor Dean, Hunter Miller, Emily Miller, and Amie Agnor Sowell; great-grandchild, Carson Hunter McDowell; and her cherished sister, Sara Ann Vowell Lindsey, LaGrange, GA.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, LaVerne Turner.

The family would like to thank Derrill Tanner and Theresa Jones for their help and loving care in recent years.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Children's Harbor, 1 Our Children's Hwy, Alexander City, AL 35010.
