Richard T. Crimmins, age 97, of Verona, died on Sunday, Nov. 21, 2010, at Four Winds Lodge in Verona.
He was born Oct. 16, 1913, in Madison to James and Gunda (Thorson) Crimmins. After James' death, Gunda moved to Primrose Township and married Sidney Myrland. Richard was raised on the Myrland Farm.
He was a life member of Primrose Lutheran Church and formerly served on its Church Council. He was the former trustee for the Primrose Cemetery Association. He also served on the board of directors of Ingleside Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility in Mount Horeb. After retirement Richard did volunteer work at Ingleside, and Four Winds Nursing Home in Verona.
On May 25, 1940, he married Elsie Shutvet in Dubuque, Iowa. Richard served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Battle of the Bulge and received the Bronze Star Medal. He was a life member of the New Glarus VFW Post No. 10549 and a 60-year member of the New Glarus American Legion Post No. 141.
He was employed by the Township of Primrose and then retired from the Dane County Highway Department.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Elsie (Jan. 20, 1995); his son, James Crimmins (Oct. 20, 2010); and his brothers and sisters, Stan and Edward Crimmins, Norman and Sydney Myrland, Marie Johnson, Laura Kammer, Ruth Kleven and Alice Myrland.
