Fern was born February 8, 1919 in St. Joseph, MO to Thomas Edward and Mable Minnie Roberts, the youngest of five children. She was married to Gilbert L. Keirns on April 23, 1935. She and Gilbert were engaged in farming and livestock production their entire married life in the Pardee community. She was an active and hard working farm wife, working beside her husband as they toiled with the duties of operating the farm. She helped supplement the farm income by raising 300 laying hens and selling the eggs for many years. Her greatest joy was raising her children and attending their school activities. Her hobbies were gardening, tending the flowers around the yard and preparing good food and maintaining a tidy house for her family. She was in later years especially devoted to her poodle Rusty.
Preceding her in death was her husband on Aug. 13, 1985; her parents, sisters Geneieve Lesher and Blair Roberts, and her brothers Bill and Preston Roberts. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Etta Mae Keirns, Goodland, KS; her daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Leroy Stutz, Oklahoma City, OK; three grandchildren; Bradley Keirns, Brian Stutz and Gregory Keirns; and seven great-grandchildren.
