James Frank Wishon, 68, of Cathlamet, passed away Feb. 22, 2012, at the Hospice Care Center.

Jim was born Aug. 22, 1943, in Portland, to Hugh and Eva (Waldron) Wishon.(He was born in Mercer County, Missouri-cs) He grew up in Missouri, graduating from Princeton High School in 1961. He joined the Navy after graduation and spent 23 years serving his country. Jim was stationed in Vietnam and Guam. He served aboard several aircraft carriers and ended his military career in 1984 as a master chief aviation ordinance man.

After moving to Cathlamet, Jim managed the Nassau Point Motel and worked at Marv's Chevron before being hired by Wahkiakum County as a corrections officer. In 1992 he joined the force as a deputy sheriff until 1997.

On June 20, 1990, he married Carolynn Elliott. Jim joined the Latter-day Saints Church in 1991, and after retirement he and Carolynn moved to Mena, Ark., where he served as branch president for five years. He was active in the church and worked at the Oklahoma City Temple for two years. In 2005 they returned to Cathlamet. Jim loved his family, gardening, fishing, hunting, photography and mechanical work.

He is survived by his wife, Carolynn; a stepdaughter, Cara Luce; three stepsons, Henry (Andrea), Mark (Amee) and Tracy (Felicitie) Elliott; his mother, Eva Wishon; a sister, Aleta Stantruff (John); a brother, Larry Wishon (Glenda); nine beloved grandchildren, Cameron, Tyra, Austin, Bryce, Morgan, Macie, Landon, Greydon and Emma; and a large extended family.

A funeral service is planned for 4 p.m. Friday at the 30th Avenue branch of Latter-day Saints Church. Visitation is planned from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at Dowling Funeral Chapel in Cathlamet. Private interment will take place at Willamette National Cemetery.
