Elvin was a son of Myrtie Mae (Wilson) and Iven Bryant, who was the son of Amanda (Shepherd) and Valentine Bryant. Elvin's middle name, Tine, was his grandfather's nickname. Valentine was the son of Rhoda (Hardin) and William Bryant. William was the son of the pioneer couple, Elizabeth and John Bryant, who were part of the original settlers of Adair County.

Elvin enlisted in the Army on October 6, 1942 at Louisville, Kentucky.

He married Alberta Sullivan about 1951 and they had two children, Joanne and Rick.

His widow, Beulah M. Bryant, has a pre-need marker beside his.

His obituary from the December 20, 1988 Reporter-Times, page 3, published in Martinsville, Indiana:

The Rev. Elvin T. Bryant, 70, Indianapolis, died Sunday, December 18, 1988, at St. Francis Hospital Center in Beech Grove. The son of Irvin and Myrtle Wilson Bryant, he was bom November 19, 1918, in Russell Springs, Kentucky. On January 31, 1976. he married Beulah Hubbard, and she survives. The Rev. Bryant was a crane operator for Bridgeport Brass Co. for 33 and one-half years, retiring In 1980. The World War II U.S. Army veteran attended Mount Calvary Evangelist Center and Free Spirit Baptist Church. Survivors besides the widow Include two sons, Earl Bryant, Martinsville, and Rick Bryant, Plainfield: a daughter, Joanne Smith, Indianapolis; three stepdaughters, Pamela Gall and Mildred Massey, both Indianapolis, and Pauline Spencer, Martinsville; a stepson, Neal Rose, Euluess, Texas; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The 1 p.m. Wednesday funeral will be at Forest Lawn Wilson-St. Pierre Funeral Home, White River Township. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, White River Township. Friends may call 4 to 8 p.m. today.
