Clinton was the son of John and Martha (Clark) Allen. He moved with his family from Lee County, Virginia to Brouillette Creek Twp, Edgar County, Illinois, when he was a child. When the Nebraska Territory opened for settlement, he and several brothers acquired bounty land in Washington County, Nebraska Territory in 1855, where he staked a claim west of Ft. Calhoun near the old Mormon Trail route.

Clint moved to Nodaway County, Missouri in 1858. He never married, but raised his nephew, John Franklin Allen, son of his deceased brother, Charles W. Allen, as his own. He died at the home of his nephew in Ravenwood. He was a member of Company I, 48th MO Infantry of the Missouri Home Guards during the Civil War and was an active member of the GAR.

Obituary:
Clint Allen was born 6 Jul 1825, in Lee County VA to John & Martha CLARK Allen. When he was quite young the family moved to IL and in 1858, with his mother and nephew John Allen moved to MO and settled on a farm. Clint was the youngest of 10 brothers and 2 sisters and the last to pass away. He died at the home of his nephew John Allen in Ravenwood and was buried in Oak Lawn Cemetery. He was a member of Co I 48th MO Infantry during the Civil War.  Active member GAR.

Contrary to Clinton's obituary & death certificate, several censuses and birth order of siblings suggest the year of his birth as being 1830, rather than 1825.
