Marjorie A. Buckles 89, of Decatur, went to be with her Lord at 12:25 a.m., October 15, 2012, in Fairhaven's Christian Home.
A service to celebrate Marjorie's life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 19, 2012 at St. John's Lutheran Church with Pastor Russell J. Weise officiating. She will be laid to rest next to her husband William in Fairlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation beginning at 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Thursday evening at Dawson & Wikoff North Funeral Home and one hour prior to services at the church on Friday morning. Marjorie was born May 10, 1923 in Lake Fork, IL the daughter of Lewis and Eliza (Peters) Gasaway. She married William J. Barnhart in 1945. He preceded her in death in December of 1961. She later married Leland Buckles in January of 1976. He preceded her in death in January of 1990.
Marjorie graduated salutatorian from Latham High School in 1941. She was Credit Manager at Black & Company Hardware in Decatur, IL. Marge also owned and operated the Latham Café and Barnhart's Café in Mt. Pulaski, IL, which were both famous for her family style mouth-watering fried chicken dinners and homemade noodles.
Marjorie loved life and loved to laugh. She cherished being a mother to all and an aunt to many. Children and animals always brought a smile to her face. Marjorie loved to paint, travel, and spend time with her family and friends. She enjoyed being a part of the Macon County Rural Youth for over 65 years and was active in her community and church. Marjorie had a heart of gold and touched everyone she met.
Surviving is her daughter: Ethel Jaggi and her husband John of Forsyth, IL; granddaughters: Elizabeth Shah and her husband Abhay of Downers Grove, IL and Anne Petry and her husband Matt of Champaign, IL; great grandson: Walter Shah of Downers Grove, IL; nieces: Pat Haseley and her husband Dave of Niantic, Il and Susie Lamb and her husband Bruce of Latham, IL; sister-in-law: Mary Pope of Mt. Pulaski, IL.
She was preceded in death by both her husbands, parents, two brothers and two sisters.
The family would like to especially thank Dr. Khan and the caring staff at Fairhaven's Christian Home in Decatur, IL.
Marjorie was much loved and will be missed greatly by her family
